![]() Including weight, there are six different stats that affect how the characters' vehicles control. This allows the player to effectively use any character with a set of stats of their choosing with the sole condition being that the character's weight stat will not change. Normally all characters are restricted to only using a single vehicle, though the option to use any vehicle with any character can also be unlocked upon obtaining a Platinum Trophy in every cup (both for race courses and rally courses) on one difficulty setting. Once the route has been opened the player will lose the needed fruit and they will be required to collect it again the following lap.Ĭharacters Playable Characters Playable Characters The player needs a specific type of fruit to open a shortcut - this fruit is designated by a coloured pad on the ground (red for cherries, green for watermelon, and purple for grapes) that must be driven over in order to activate the alternate route. Race Mode also brings back the shortcut mechanic from the original PAC-MAN World Rally: three types of fruits - cherries, watermelon, and grapes - are hidden on the course each lap that can open alternate routes once collected. Courses have a variety of different gimmicks on them, such as hazards that may hinder their ability to traverse environments or speed boosts to allow them to speed through certain obstacles. As opposed to the "open world"-type gameplay of Rally Mode, Race Mode instead forces all players onto a single linear course that they must complete three laps on. Race Mode however is more akin to other kart racing games such as the aforementioned PAC-MAN World Rally and Nintendo's Mario Kart series. Rally courses are large and open, allowing all racers to tackle these flags in any order that they please and potentially collide with each other as they attempt to reach different checkpoints. The disappearance of checkpoints acts as a replacement to the lap-based system other kart racers typically possess, and the first to drive through the twentieth checkpoint they complete the Rally and earn a set number of points depending on how many racers they finished faster than. Once the player has driven through a checkpoint it disappears, and once all checkpoints disappear ten more spawn in different locations. A total of 10 "flags" (checkpoint goals) spawn on the stage at a time, which all racers must drive through. In Rally Mode, unlike other kart racing titles, the goal of the game is not to win a race but rather be the first to collect 20 flags scattered around the course. Rally Mode, for which the game is named, draws heavy inspiration from the original Rally-X title. Though they make use of the same game mechanics, PAC-MAN: Rally-Xover features two game modes that differ from each other in terms of goals: Rally and Race. The player can equip up to two Effect Cards or a single Power Card at a time. There are two types of Crew Cards: Effect Cards, which have permanent effects that persist throughout an entire race and Power Cards, which instead have temporary effects that the player can activate at the cost of some of the user's PAC-Gauge. Crew Cards can alter the player's stats in a variety of different ways or give them small bonuses, with each card having a different effect on the characters. Instead of being able to eat enemies, a racer in PAC-Form is instead able to spin other racers out by driving into them, making them an invulnerable weapon for a short period of time.Ī new gameplay mechanic introduced in Rally-Xover is the ability to create Crews of characters using Crew Cards. Unlike in PAC-MAN World Rally, which featured a similar mechanic, all other racers will not transform into ghosts and multiple characters can enter this "PAC-Form" simultaneously. When enough PAC-Dots are collected to fill the player's PAC-Gauge (a small bubble present in the top left of their screen), the racer can temporarily transform into a large version of "classic" PAC-MAN and gain a massive speed boost. The "classic" PAC-MAN appearance that serves as every character's PAC-Form.Īcross every map are a number of Pac-Dots. By performing drifts or mid-air tricks the player can earn small boosts by holding a drift for a long enough time or performing multiple tricks the player can increase the level of their speed boost from level one (denoted by white sparks emitting from their wheels) to level two (yellow sparks) and level three (blue sparks). As this is the main goal for players, many game mechanics allow the player to gain boosts by performing a variety of different actions. PAC-MAN: Rally-Xover is a kart racing game that sees the player needing to out-speed their rivals. ![]()
